In the darkness of the night
As he lay upon his bed
A thousand thoughts forgone
Came pouring into his head
His eyes kept getting heavy
And his brain began to shut
Slivers of golden light
Burned through his cigarette butt
He kept his senses open
But his eyes began to rain
Cigarettes and empty glasses
Couldn’t hold in his eternal pain
And he felt all of life’s misery
In one inglorious puff
So he took one more, and more again
‘Cause once was not enough
Yet on his bed his body stayed
But his soul did fly away
To the place they called a better one
In the ever lasting grave
He saw a bokeh of flooded lights
Coming through his window sill
Took a last puff of his cigarette
And laid his body still
“Alcoholism and drug abuse will never answer your problems my friend”
