Thirsty Waters

Why do we need love? What is the fundamental need for some other person’s affection towards our very existence in this world? Is it because we feel that the person we think we’re in love with is the answer to all our miseries and all our loneliness in this world? Or is it because we, as humans, need someone to rely upon when we feel the world is not enough for us? Then why is it that when we lose that “someone”, we tend to denounce the world in its very form? That the world we see around us seems much less bright and much less wide than it did with that person by our side. “Heartbreak” is a very tough word to interpret. Everyone has their own meaning to it. Some overcome it and make a new one from its broken pieces, while others keep searching for the missing pieces that their “someone” ruthlessly took away from them and threw away to rot in the boiling hell that this world has now become to them. They feel incomplete without the presence of such a touch in their lives, a touch that they would’ve killed to hold on to. “Love” is a word with various dimensions to it. It can bring about waves of joy and happiness when you have it, and it can destroy you if you refuse to let go of it even when it itself doesn’t want to hold on to you. I’ve been asked many times as to what is the best thing to do when that happens. When love just won’t let go of you. When it kills you from within and keeps bringing you back from the dead, only to kill you again. I never really had an answer to this question until one day someone very close to my heart broke down next to me. Someone who formed a very crucial part of my heart that I couldn’t let go off. Seeing that one person break down in that manner brought about the answer that I’d been seeking for so long.

It is not worth crying for someone who didn’t consider you worthy of being in their life. People might have reasons for leaving you, they might be justified in their own places, they might be perfect in letting you go when they thought they could no longer continue being the rock you lean on, but they will never be worthy of your tears. Your tears are the way your soul releases all that built up pain that you hold inside yourself. The pain that cleanses your path, as you make your journey towards the ultimate destination of life. The pain that keeps you from falling apart in an otherwise turbulent world, that is ready to rip you into pieces. Our character is not defined by the love we give or receive, it is defined by the hatred and neglect we face and still decide to carry on, giving away only positivity to each and every individual we meet along the way, including us. For the light can never be your guide in the outside world if its very source keeps flickering. So, clean up those eyes, and let them shine upon the world. Your world.
